Graham,Wm, Montgomery Co, AL;1854;Will,Slave Freed

Hi All!

I ran into this while researching a different William Graham of the same locality. I do not know if Zachariah, three year old mulatto son of William Graham ever actually received his freedom as manumitted in Graham's will.

Item 10 of Graham's Will reads:

"I will desire and /direct that without regard to the payment of any of the legacies herein bequeathed my Executors hereinafter named shall remove my mullatto slave boy named Zachariah (sometimes Called Coon) aged about three years as soon after my death as practicable to some State in the American Union where African Slavery is not known and recognised and that my said executors shall then procure letters of Guardianship to be issued to some suitable person as Guardian for said Zachariah."
