Judge Stephen M Adams was constable in Franklin Co TN, studied law, and was elected to the TN state legislature as a young man, but he didn't serve his full term. He moved to the Mississippi territory, & married Alpha Leonard in Madison Co, AL. They had only one surviving daughter, Mary Ann Adams who married Mr. Weatherall in MS. Stephen M Adams was one of the Judges for the Mississippi district court, her served on the MS constitutional convention, he served in the U.S. Congress. He also served out the remainder of Jefferson Davis' term, when Davis resigned to run for MS governor.
Adams 1st wife died, and he married ~1848 on election day to Mary Ann Parrish (nee Clark, daughter of Judge Solomon Clark). He adopted her two daughter by Parrish.
He left the U.S. Senate & removed to Memphis to start a law practice, but died in a smallpox epidemic in 1857. He owned land in Pontotoc co, MS & Monroe co, MS during the later years of his life.
