Just found an article (The Daily Independent dated 9 June 1928) that states that Sidney was the slave of Horatio DePriest. Sidney, and his son, Robert, were given to Horatio's daughter, Harriett Calista Depriest, as a wedding present when she married Judge Sidney Cherry Posey of Florence, Lauderdale, Alabama in 1833. The plantation was called Sunnyside.

So maybe he wasn't the son of Randolph DePriest, afterall.

Hillard Johnson was also a slave of Judge Posey, as were Henry Patton (a mulatto man who could pass for white). Could Henry be Narcissa's brother?
