Re: Devereuax Slave Listing
In Response To: Re: Devereuax Slave Listing ()
I am quite baffled of how to begin this...My husband and I own Mr. Elliot and Mrs. Elliot's home...D'Evereux in Natchez, MS. I found your thread on a chance. I would LOVE to know more about Mrs. Elliot in particular. She has been said to supply blankets during times of trouble to the slaves. D'Evereux is one of the more Beautiful examples of Greek architecture in the United States. I choose to believe that Mr and Mrs. Elliot had a more progressive view of the world in which they lived. Side note...Natchez has more antebellum structures intact for a reason...Natchez did not formally secede from the Union due to political ties...Which Mr. and Mrs. Elliot were joined. (Of course you know of their friendship with Henry Clay) I'm so delighted to find a Precious family member. Please enlighten me in any way (good or bad)in the inner workings of my adoptive family home.
