I know that some exists, but are there records available of former shlves who were 'bound out'? I'm looking for these recordsfor the Virginia area.
Several years ago, I found in the Virginia Freedman Bureau Letters of my 3rd greatgrandfather who was looking to have his niece returned to him. She was bound back to her slaveowner. I want to see if the contract was available as it would tell me who her parents were. Plus this niece his wife, my 3rd greatgrandmother and it would tell me something about her.
