Came across this unusual resource in doing my research - Auditor of Public Accounts, RECORDS OF CONDEMNED BLACKS EXECUTED OR TRANSPORTED, 1781-1865. This is at the Library of Virginia and consists of 7 microfilm reels. It is arranged alphabetically and then chronologically.
Given that there are over 2000 items in these records it wouldn't hurt taking a look at this if your family is from Virginia. It includes both slaves and free persons of color who were condemned for a crime and then either executed or transported out of the state and sold.
Reel 2549: Bonds for the Transportation of Condemned Slaves, 1806-1857
Reels 2550-2555: Condemned Slaves, Court Orders and Valuations, 1781, 1783-1865
Reel 2555: Executive Authority to Sell Transportees, 1833-1857; Slaves and Free Persons for Sale and Transportation, 1816-1842; Slaves Transported or Executed, 1833-1836; Slaves Transported or Sold, 1846-1854
This would be great record to index if any one was up to the task!
