What you say is most likely true. I feel that to be a better reason than to learn, as I have, about Free Blacks who were kidnapped and sold into slavery as well as Free Blacks who owed money and entered into an indenture that they could not pay and the indenture agreement was sold to someome else thus making them, the Free Black, a slave. There was an economic downturn in America about 1832-1837 which caused a number of people in the Virginia area to go into debt. Slave traders profitted gathering people and transporting them to Louisiana/Mississippi for sale.
