Thanks. As I said and I still have the email sent from the NC Archives, I specifically asked for ESTATE records. The email sent back to me said, 'the WILL would not include info about slaves, since he died in 1890. I know from researching past ancestors, this would not be true. Somewhere in Estate records there will be tax records, info about his holdings. That's the reason I have been looking around for information on the net for a picture first then into the holdings. I think the NC Archivist was someone who just did not want to go searching for info, because they started suggesting looking in other directions. All political people have some records. Every picture so far I have seen is only a black and white version. And his pictures..so far everyone is black and white photo's. The state has preserved his home, so there must be painted photo's of him. I won't give up and thanks for the link. I had forgotten about family search.
