Jan--his pension records would be too pricey to order. Your other ideas are good ones. I will try those. I am wondering if there are color portraits of his family also. They have his home and stuff on the net, in color. I guess I will have to keep digging.

G.O--you are right about that red hair on my ancestor. If there is someone in Zeb's family with it, it may be a possibility. When I requested information from the NC Archives, I stayed away from asking about a will. They volunteered information that since he died in 1890, there would be no information about slave holdings in his will. I REQUESTED Estate record information. All of his wealth from day 1 would have a accounting of his 'personal property' slaves. Wealth. I think I am getting the run around.

Need to find a historian that wants to talk about this person. Another cousin has said she remembers something about the name. We working on it.
My ancestors, during slavery seemed to spend most of their time in SC, but Sc and Nc were one place many years before it split to North and Sout Carolina.
