From what I can gather John Dawkins didn't have a will. What I have shows an Inventory & Appraisement Bill of the Estate of John Dawkins deceased taken by the undersigned on the 16th day of May 1840. In this it mentions 1 Black Boy Daniel $300.00 (could be $200.00) & 1 Negro Man named Richard $100.00. There isn't any mentioned of who bought them.

Is there a way of finding out who the slaves were & if they would have used the Dawkins name after they had become free? This has intrigued be for many years.
