AfriGeneas Slave Research Forum

Re: Black Slave Owners, Part II

Dear David:

I echo your remarks. One concern. The author of the posting by [] is from C. Wilson Viar, III. Therefore the information and discussion outlined by David will be of no importance to Viar unless he/she sees your posting. The link lists queries and comments with no important research.

But once again AfriGeneas can provide sterling research to the discussion about black slave owners. David points to an earlier discussion on AfriGeneas about this subject. Thank you, David.

For those in the AfriGeneas family who are interested in black slave owners, please note that one of the discussion links David referred to is by author Larry Koger, " Black Slaveowners: Free Black Slave Masters in South Carolina,1790-1860." The link to his comments is listed below.

I did a search to find the correct title of Mr. Koger’s book. Several of the results link Kroger’s book and research to neo-confederate sites. It was nauseating to see this. Let’s block out these negative sites. Their agenda is so transparent.

On a very positive note, please read Kroger’s remarks. I’ve read Koger’s book and highly recommend it. His research expands the history of black slave owners to include other states, not just the stereotypical examples of lower South. He also disputes the belief that all slave owners were saving their relatives from this horrible system.

My interest is in the slaves that were owned by African-Americans. Where are their stories?

Regards,

K Wyer Lane
