You are right, there is no excuse for insensitity towards the horrors of slavery. Dr. King confronted the behaviors of inequality and injustice, he paid with his life. It took his life for our nation to recognized that we as People of Color had a right to confront the issues of racism. Our mission as researchers is to uncover the cruelty of slavery, while giving our ancestors "voice."
I know that for me, researching and finding my ancestors in slave bills was heartbreaking.
I continued with my broken heart, despite any obstacles, my mission was to focus only on their flight through the gloomy days of slavery. And for that reason only, I was able to focus only on them. Facts, are facts you are not re-writing history, you are making history. I applaud your efforts.
