In Response To: Re: Slave descendants of the Cabell family (Derek) ()
So as for our particular branch slaves in which we are descended from, also came from
Now William's second wife Mariah Catherine Dodd Effinger, inherited much of our branch, which comes from the female breeder slave named Matilda. The male breeder was Beck.
The other male breeder was Julius, who took the last name of Mead(s). The children of Julius to the last names of Mead, Meads, Thompson, and Johnson. And the children married into the Taliaferro (Tolliver), Nappier, Colman, and Rose, Curtis.
This is just a taste of what I have uncovered.
The other names that come from this line are the Vaughn, and Whitlock family.
So how does my branches from Wingina link to Massies Mill, you ask? Well... we attach in many ways, one being inherited through the parents of William and Catherine Effinger's daughter Florence, husband line of the Horsley family. The other from Bowler Cocke, and later, John Hartwell Cocke, who attaches to the Cabell family, as well as the Rives of Oak Ridge.
This slavery stuff is a hard nut to crack. I tell ya!
