Hello Deloris,
I'm recently doing more indepth research of my NC ancestors and I'm looking at Cherry-Dickens realtionships. They were located in Edgecombe County, NC.
I have a Henry C. Cherry who married a Mary Ann Jones 14 Mar 1861. Henry C. Cherry was 'reportedly' emancipated prior to the Civil War. Would you be so kind and check for a manumission record of Henry C. Cherry? A BTW, Henry C. Cherry was also recorded as having served in the NC Legislature during the period of Reconstruction.
Hnery C. Cherry's son, Henry Newberry Cherry married a Lucy Dickens ca 1885 in Edgecombe County, NC. Lucy (Dickens) Cherry was the daughter of Dr. K.H. "Kelly" Dickens and his slave mistress, Millie. Lucy died as Lucy Cherry in Princeville, Edgecombe County, NC in 1916.
Thanks for any help you can offer in this matter.
Warmest Regards,
Art Thomas
