Re: "Who Do You Think You Are" TV Series

Hollis
I agree with you in respect that a lot of other details could have been provided, but don't you think this was a way to get people interested in STARTING to look for their ancestor's. There are many books, and Afro American Genealogy Societies that have organized in southern states because of past programs like this. Not too long ago Dr Gates was the commentator for a series of black participants who's DNA and ancestry was found. So don't be too hard on them. Each time a program of this sort appears on tv, I sit with my note pad and something comes up that I haven't tried as yet. The Virginia research is one I would love to try and look for my people, but so far I have not found any Deeds where I knew this was a ancestor. And it is costly to travel to these places to do this. But you just never know when something will show up from the ancestor's. It is possible for black people to get to records BEFORE 1870 when we were counted and this showed how and where. ;)
