I agree to a certain point...
In Response To: Religion of the Slaves ()

i would agree with your view and i commend your Opinion however you never once even mentioned Islam , now that is either a mistake or a Error and there is a diffrence .
There were certain areas of our Home land that were so influenced by Islam that our fore parents could recite the Holy Quaran by Memory Alone . Also the Dietary as well as spiritual influence helped to keep us strong under the rigors of slavery . Even as Alex Haley was writing his Epic " Roots" he shows the profound influence of Islam on the Mandingo and Neighboring tribes as well . This influence of Islam is freely Admitted in Secret circles like " Shriners" but we seem to be in a form of Denile when we speak on Islam . I see that you did not want to say it outright , but Christianity was used to make the most " ostile " slave become Harmless and controllable .
We were taught the verses of the Holy Bible " love thy Master " Turn the other cheek " love those who despitfully use you ect. While the "masters" were enslaving , hating and raping us for over 400 years, I repeat 400 years . Islam and Moorish History in paticular effected how Christianity was taught to us. Religion was used the same way to control our Native American Family as well . And Also our Hispanic family as we can all see. I'll leave it at that and I thank you for your wonderful words and enlightened point of view ...Peace... Ishmael
