Re: Robert and Sarah EATON NC
In Response To: Re: Robert and Sarah EATON NC ()

Allen,
I began my search last year and through the census i found my great great great grandmother and grandfather Robert and Sarah Eaton. On the 1900 census Robert is 72 years old and Sarah is much younger 44 years old. I found this information to be interesting so I continued to search because Robert is listed as being born around 1828 which would problaby mean he was born a slave. I looked for plantations in North Carolina that belong to an owner named Eaton and was unsuccessful until I stumbled accidently on an article by an anthorpology student at chapell hill. To my amazment the Eaton Ferry Cemetary was discovered in 1962 the cemetary had blacks and whites buried in unmarked graves and the remains were studied and put into an article by this student and the article was basically about how slave life effected the medical condition of slaves at this time. I made an educated guess that my Great great great grandfathers surname of Eaton makes him a likely candidate that he was a slave on this plantation. However, it has been a challenge finding him due to the fact that slaves were given to W children after he died
