Re: Prather Plantation
In Response To: Re: Prather Plantation ()
We may be related somewhere along the line. I also am African-American. My great-grandfather was William C. Prather, Sr. who from what I understand was a slave) on the Prather Plantation in Toccoa, GA. His wife, Clara Jarrett, also believed to be a slave, lived on the Jarrett planation (now Traveler's Rest) just down the road. From what I also understand slaves were often traded back and forth between the two plantations. Will Prather and Clara Jarrett had 11 children of which my grandmother, migrated to Essex County, New Jersey Area. We still have family in Toccoa, in fact most of the family members remaining in Toccoa live on a street (can't recall the name) that was given/sold to the family by the Prathers. About 4 years ago, we had our family reunion in Toccoa and like you had the opportunity to meet the widow of the owner of the plantation and yes, she was nice.
By any chance are you a descendant of one of Will or Clara's siblings? Or one of Will or Clara's 11 children listed below or Alfred
