You don't mention any dates for the ages of the people you are looking for, but I suspect from the marriage date that you give for 1871 for one couple, that you are looking for the wrong kinds of records. I don't see any of the names you give in any pages of the book. The records covered in this book are for those who were freed prior to the Emancipation of ALL slaves at the close of the Civil War in 1865. Please note, that at the end of the Civil War, ALL slaves were officially set free and there would be no record of any individual emancipation for the former slaves. Prior to that, slaves were freed in North Carolina for various reasons which had to be enacted upon by the Courts or the General Assembly, generally through the filing of petitions for or by the parties involved. Probably the best way to tell if your ancestors were freed prior to the Civil War is to see if you can locate them as FREE people in the census records at least in the 1860 census. If they are not in that census, then odds are they were not free people at all during that time.
