Re: LAWTON Slave holder
In Response To: Re: LAWTON Slave holder ()

I took a look at the Slave Schedules on ancestry. In 1850, there were 382,507 slaves listed in SC. 1,074 listed for a slaveholder with the Lawton name. 1,397 - Martin. 523 - Bostick. 306 - Peeples. 289 - Maner. 193 - Solomons.

Some of the names to look for in books and documents are Samuel Maner, John Maner, and John Solomons.

De Saussure, Nancy Bostick, (1909), Old Plantation Days Being Recollections of Southern Life Before The Civil War,
New York: The Trow Press.
