Re: Nelson County VA plantations

Could you please be specific with the first names of the individuals you are looking for. Although there is only one couple with the name Venable.....there are over 80 entries, where either the Man or Woman is listed with having the surnames of either, Anderson, Wright, Woodson, Wood, Brown and Bowling.

The information is taken from the Cohabitation List for Nelson County part of Record Group 105.

The heading on the Listing says:
A REcord of Freedmen and Women who have been registerd in the County Clerk's Office as man and wife since the surrender.

The listing begins on July 24, 1865
The Headings are
Parties Names
Husband - Wife
Number - begins at 1 and ends at 643
When married - date they began cohabitating
Where married (on farm/premises of}
It is safe to assume that the names that are given in the column are the names of the slave owners for either both or 1
