In Response To: Re: Spivey Plantation - Eatonton, Putnam, GA ()
I will answer your questions as best I can. I live in New York City, but my ancestors hailed from Macon [Bibb County], Millen [now Jenkins County], and Screven County, Georgia. Because of the geographical challenges involved, I am heavily dependent on the Internet for my research.
I have personally visited the 'main' library in Atlanta, Georgia on several occasions, and researched records there. I found no information on my ancestors [ADAMS, BRINSON, and KELSEY from the Millen/Screven area, and MURRAY and SPIVEY from the Macon, Bibb County area]. I contacted a few cemeteries in Macon a few years ago regarding Spivey burials, but got no positive results based on the personal information I submitted.
The information I have so far has been found on the Ancestry.com website. While I take every opportunity to research in Georgia when I am there, I have not had any success thus far. My funds are not unlimited, but I am willing to spend money where the results prove promising [when I began, I spent some money in chasing false leads, and have since learned how to be more conservative about where I expend my funds].
Any suggestions as to how to forward my research under these circumstances would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your time and attention.
