How to find early death records

I am having the same problem you are having. I have knowledge of my grandpa's death from TB in Oak Forest hospital in 1933, but state of IL cannot produce a death cert for him. He was black but looked white, he was in his 70's but looked to be in his 50's. I don't know, either, what to do. But like you, I am still plugging in there. I've turned my attention to the hospital and contacted them for patient discharge records in 1933. Perhaps that will tell me who claimed his body and/or where he is buried and other info like his mother's name. We know his father was a white man named Hampton Walker and his mother was obviously black, born in VA.

Contact local libraries where you THINK he might have died. They have helped me to find other things and they can give you pointers as to possible other sources. Good luck (to both of us)!
