Is your roadblock identifying his parents?

You will need to get a marrriage record, or other records that might identify him - sometimes there are slave birth, school, church social security, military or other records that mention a parent(s) name. Most of these are not online (though a few are). Explore what county records are available.

Please post more information. Name of siblings, wife, children - what other records you have found him in and where, and perhaps other MS researchers can give you some assistance.
