Re: Dealing with Funeral Homes
In Response To: Re: Dealing with Funeral Homes ()
I have written, called, sent copies of genealogy charts, included proof of relationships and visited funeral homes. At the time of my on site visit to the funeral home, I requested that the information be forwarded to a member of the family who's relationship I had just found out about, because of an old obituary that was given to me by a family member. It upsets me still to this day to describe this. I stood there and asked the funeral director to read everything in this envelope before forwarding, while I was standing there to make sure nothing was in appropiate. The envelope was about an upcoming family reunion, our 1st. Don't you know instead of taking the time to read it, she picked up the phone and told the next of kin that some lady was there with a envelope and should she send it. Now what would you do. It took 6 more years before I was able to find this lost family. The person I was trying to find was a stepdaughter, so she was very suspicious of her father's side of the family. We are the best of friends now. When I told her about that encounter at the funeral home, she explained her reaction.
