My wife grandfather name was Will/William Patterson born 1873? Lauren Hill North Carolina. I have his death certificate and it list his father name as ALEX PATTERSON and his mother name as ELIZ BUCHANAN. In the 1870 census I found Eliza Patterson listed with her husband name CATER PATTERSON they had a son name William Patterson age 7 month. In the 1880 census I found Eliza Patterson listed with her husband name CATO PATTERSON and they had a son name Will Patterson age 12. My question is could CATER & CATO be another name for Alex Patterson? All of them was listed in Lauren Hill North Carolina. I would appreciated your help.
