Evans Family Tree: How & What To Do?

First let me explain that through ancestry.com, Afrigeneas folks, and other research data I have managed to find something on the person I assume was my grandfather Joe Evans; however it is not that I have researched this but there is a need on my part to be challenged as to the information I received. I only wish that there are those persons out there who read these messages and know of the South Carolina Evans family or at least related to these people I have listed. My research first goes to Anderson County, Honea Path, South Carolina where my Uncle Ike Evans lived and died. Prior to his death in July, 1992 at the age of ninety or so, Uncle Ike whom I had only met a few times on the telephone and by letter did admit that he had a brother John, my father, but he knew very little about me. My father and my mother were never married when I was born, and beside John lived in North Carolina until his death in January 17, 1962. According to the story, Ike said that his father Joe Evans had married three times: one to Mary Vance who gave birth to John, Ike,Jessie and Lucious who died as a young child. Joe then married MaryThomas who gave him Josebell and Willie Simon. After Mary Thomas died, Joe married Laura Smith who did not give him children. According to Ike, Joe died in May 10, 1914 in Abbeville,S.C There are no death records before 1915 in S.C.
My research into all of this points to Joe Evans born in 1877 according to 1880 census of Abbeville, S.C.; his father William, a painterin in the 1880 census was a widower and was probably born in 1830s. In Abbeville another family is mentioned Frank Vance and wife Sophie who has children such as Frank Jr, Allen, and Mary. Mary Vance born in 1877. She believed to be the wife of Joe Evans are were my grandparents, and parents of those mentioned before. In 1900 censis pf Abbeville Joe is not mentioned but Mary Evans is shown living with her brother Allen and Allen's wife, and the children here are listed as Harry, Ira, and Jessie.
According to Ike he and John had different names. Harry and Ira. In 1910 there is something that supports some of this: Joe Evans born 1868; has a son RE(sounds like Harry), Irlerd (sonds like Ira), Jessie, Josephers or Josie, and Marchal. The plot thickens.
Frank Vance Sr. died in 1918 in Abbeville. So if anyone is out there who have knowledge of these folks, know of people related to these folks, or if you are related please get in touch...for purpose of the Evans and Vance Family Tree. thanks. Joseph
