Why is it so hard to find some black families on the 1870 census?
I can not find my family on the 1870 census anywhere.......Was there a major historical transition during 1870? That was shortly after the emancipation proclamation.

5/12 Joseph L. Hoskins

I can not find them on the 1870 census........What is the next step?
Could they have had their names changed?
