ARRIVING VESSELS FROM THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS TO NEW BEDFORD, MASS - Looking at Halter's list it appears that -
The only vessel that came into New Bedford in 1901 was the Bryton which came in on May 13th with 100 passengers from Brava
Eleven vessels came into New Bedford in 1907 (8 from Brava & 3 which just say CVI)
Five vessels came into New Bedford in 1910 (all from Fogo).
The list ends in 1920.

I think that Cape Verdeans (African/portuguese) largely (if not exclusively) came into New Bedford & Azoreans(white Portuguese) probably came into Ellis Island but I'll check that theory with Mr. Cyr. Was Rose Azorean or CV?

On p 69 Halter says "the packet boats' ... 'were owned and operated by the Cape Verdeans themselves" ... The vessels were described as "floating shipwrecks" ... "a cross between a caravel of Columbus & Huck Finn's raft" ... (but) "the Cape Verdeans were surrounded by their own compatriots". It was a month long voyage.
