I checked the surname distribution site (for the US) and there were enough Halfacres to trigger the site in 1990 in Alaska, Miss, Ark, TN, & SC.
A Family Search check for the 1880 census shows 254 individuals with the name Halfacre so you may want to look at those names.
There were about 200+ Halfacres in the Social Security Death Index & you might want to check there as well.
