The Georgia Death Index does not start until 1919. You may be able to find a record of his death prior to 1919 in the county records of Chatham County, Georgia. Try calling the Bull Street Library Genealogy Room in Savannah at (912)652-3697 and request a look up from the workers there. They may be able to find your relative in the Savannah Morning News microfilm. This newspaper goes back quite a bit. So give it a shot.
