I have a problem I need help with.
I KNOW Lucy Vance was born in Shaws Creek SC and her surname in 1870 was VANCE.
Today I received a copy of the death certificate for her son Ed Vance who was the son of her x-slaveholder according to family information. Ed also was a carpenter so he may have been an apprentice with another family. I remember seeing a picture of him when I was a little girl in my grandmother's bible. Ed was very light complexion, his sister's were all dark.
According to the death certificate Lucy gave Ed's father's name as Huce/Hugh Vance, born in MS. This is new information.
The second info given that I am questioning is she gave her maiden name as Moseley. This is something, I don't feel is correct. I feel she gave this name because she was not married to his father and his father's surname may have been MOSELY,
Huce/Hugh. Ed Vance was born Mar 17 1880 in MS.
Lucy had 3 daughter's, Genie who's last name was Childs bn 3 Feb 1883 MS(I have no other info about Genie's surname), Annie and Adell Vance.
What I need help for, is finding a Mosely with Huce or Hugh in 1880 MS.
I found Lucy Vance in Monroe Ms with 2 of her daughters Annie and Adell in the household. I did not find Genie or Ed in the same household until about 1910.
I am hoping to find the name of the last slaveholder of Lucy Vance and the actual correct name of Ed Vance's father.
