I have narrowed down the possibilities of the slave owners in Sharon Township in Mecklenburg COunty NC that my ancestors, Daniel and Ellen Walker, (I found on the 1870 and 1880 census) could have belonged to. I am basing that on surnames, proximity and real estate value on the 1870 and 1880 censuses of the white families involved. There were 3 Walkers who had slaves in that township. 2 have slaves the right age in 1860 but only one has a male slave the right age in 1850 too - John and Saffronia Walker.

I know that my family and the white family have the same surname does not absolutely mean they were the owners, but based on the proximity and the fact that there were 11 other African AMerican Walkers in the same town led me to believe there may have been a relationship, so I am starting there.

I am not sure what to do next. I am starting with that white Walker family, but what records do I access to find out what their slaves names were, if any?
