I wrote that without thinking. I HAVE seen Buck used as a nickname for the name Buckner. Buckner was a family name in one branch of my family from SC. The daughters married and used their maiden name as a first name for their sons. I suppose that would apply to any last name used as a first name which began with the letters buc or buck.
