Re: cooper family of virginia

Thank you for all of the information and research. I truly appreciate it. This past weekend, I went to the nursing home where my step-grandmother resides. She was married to Arthur Cooper and their marriage was the last of his 4(four!) marriages. Although she is 105 years old, she surprisingly still possesses a pretty good memory. I asked her about my grandfather's father. She stated that she never met him but that he was a "foreigner who worked on a ship in Norfolk and gave Bo's (my grandfather) mother(Abby Lewis)money to purchase the cafe that she owned in Norfolk". My step-grandmother does not know the name of the cafe;however she states that it was willed to my grandfather due to the fact he was the only surviving child. His sister, Fannie Cooper, the only other sibling, died earlier. As stated earlier, I believe that the Arthur Cooper born in Norfolk, VA and found in the WWI Draft Registration Card, is my grandfather.
I was also able to contact a distant relative and she has done genealogy research on the 'Lewis' family ancestry. She states that Absalom Lewis was the father of her great-grandfather, William Lewis. I researched this and to my surprise, found Abby Lewis in the 1870, Goochland County, Va. Census, as one of William Lewis' siblings. I then researched Absalom Lewis in the 1880 Census and found an Absalom living in Henrico County with most if the same children, but a different wife (Ann Lewis) and two additional children who were younger in age. I believe this may be the same Absalom. I did not see Abby listed; however, the name Christean and Abigail Cooper are listed as neighbors. I later found Ann Lewis in the 1900 Census Richmond, Va. She is listed as head of household and two of the same children's name are listed. Also, a Fannie Cooper and Arthur Cooper are listed as grandchildren! I also found my Uncle, Cecil Cooper, one of Arthur's children and my mother's half-brother, listed in the 1930 Census in Richmond, Va. living with a Fannie and Edgar Reid. I know this is my uncle because he has mentioned a Fannie Reid raising him in Richmond. His mother died at childbirth and his father (Arthur Cooper) left him with the Reids. The Census states that my uncle is the Reids' nephew. I wonder if Fannie Reid is also Arthur Cooper's sister Fannie Cooper. My uncle did not know how the Reid's were related to him. He stated that people did not discusss this back then. I am trying to connect all of them to Benjamin Cooper but can not find him anywhere. Do you think I am on to anything? Many of the ages and dates are off a little.
