I also research Kansas - and have been pleasantly surprised to find mention of my AA family in lots of local "white" newspapers - they tended to report a lot of family "gossip", and included items on the "colored" people of the small towns.

There are lots of KS items in the Afrigeneas list archives (link below) thanks to several folks who took the time to transcribe and post.

Will post anything I run across on Hudspeth (and all the mis-spellings)
