Even when it comes to marriage and birth records the race can also be wrong. I found my g grandmother and her sister were listed as white in the marriage records. This happened in VA and NC. How this could happen I don't know.

My cousin who just a few years older than I am (I recently found out that on her birth certificate she was listed as white -wait until I talk to her I definitely have something to tease her about). A few cousins who are younger than I am also the same thing they were listed as white. All the people listed are black.

In the census in NC I found a ancestor (not direct line) he was listed as white while my gg grandfather living in the same household was listed as Mulatto. I think but have not confirmed these 2 men were brothers but they had the same last name and my gg grandfather named a son with the same gentlemans name.
