I cold call all the time. I forge relationships with all those that I call for information and then continually call them after the fact so that they know that I am trustworthy and have the right intentions. That way, when they speak to the other relatives, who's phone number that I've gotten from them, I already have established a good rapport. This has seemed to work for me. As long as the person I'm calling knows someone else in the family, I haven't had any issues.
