There was a big thread that stared out advising this called "follow the daughters" because daughters, married or single, were likely to inherit slaves, who would then be under a different slaveowners name, ..... and if you repeat that two or three generations you have slaves who were originally owned ny XXXXXX and may still use that name upon freedom, although they may have passed through YYYY and ZZZZ owners

Follow all the children in the likely slave-owner family!
