Re: Travis Robbins
In Response To: Travis Robbins ()
I saw your Rosa Bush with Travis listed with the Walker family in the 1870 census of Lancaster County Va. I also noticed that all around Rosa is a lot of Afro American Robinson families. Keep that in mind.
In 1880, Rosa is in White Stone, Lancaster Va living with James and Virginia Bush. I think this is her father and mother, right? Also with Rosa is Travis and Jane age 3.
Now here is where it gets very interesting.
In 1910, there is a Travis Robinson age 38 living with wife Mary age 36. Children are Bertha age 19, a 16 year daughter whose name is hard to make out, Jessie/Jossie age 12, and Travis Jr age 9.
In 1920, there is a Travis Robbins, age 50 living with wife Traja/Fraja age 25. Children are Bertha age 24, Travis JR age 19 and two small children name Davie age 4 and Mary age 2. Now, it appears to me that the 1910 Travis and the 1920 Travis are the same persons. Because of Bertha and Travis being in both families and because the ages nearly match. It would appear also that Traja/Fraja is Travis's second wife. And the 2 year old Mary may have been named after his first wife.
Remember, that in 1870, there are many Robinson's living next to Rosa when Travis was only one year old. So in your search you may want to look at the surname Robinson as well. Also, I noticed that there are a large number of Robinson's in Lancaster County in the census records as opposed to the very small number of Robbins.
So, Travis may have been a Bush and then a Robinson or maybe the Robinson was a mistake from the beginning. I did noticed that your last name is Robbins so forgive me if I am off base here but the fact that there are so many Robinson's living near Rosa Bush in 1870 should be considered.
Have you been able to get a Death Certificate for Travis yet?
