Rembert Beverly was an African-American who was a busy man. He was a politician in the 1890's but gave it up because he mentioned in the local newspapers that politics was a dirty business. He was a special agent for the IRS about 1903-1904. He established & incorporated the Anson Brick Company in 1907 with two other partners & sold the company to the Brasington Family one year later. He helped to establish & incorporate the Afro-American Civic League about the same time. This was a forerunner of the NAACP. By 1919 he was one of the largest landowners in Anson County & was landlord to many tenants.
