This is what I know about my father:

Father's name: Millard Richardson
Mother's name: Sarah Ann Clark

According to his discharge papers from the US Navy he was inducted May 1st, 1943 and discharged 7 December, 1945. He was employed by the Southern Railway System, Greensboro, NC from November 1942 to April 1943 as a chauffeur. His home address at the time of entry into the service was RT. 3 Apex, NC. His place of entry into active service was LB#4, Varina, NC. He was registered in Wake (CO) NC.

I got this information by contacting the VA and Office of the Navy when I found some old papers my mom had stored away. My mom is suffering the early stages of Alzheimer's and often doesn't even remember she's talking to me - so it makes it hard to get info from her.

Now that I have the info I do, I just don't know how to do the research. Someone mentioned that I might be able to look up his family on a census? How do I do that? Can I access records like that from here in Canada? I have his SSN. Does that help with finding other records?

As far as the Richardson family goes, I don't want anything from them other than to know where I came from. The don't even have to exchange Christmas cards if they don't want to - I just want to know who I am. Mind you it would be a fantasy realized if I were to be received as Antwone Fisher had been in the movie.
