Re: Oglesby/Whorley Campbell Cnt VA (1870)
In Response To: Oglesby/Whorley Campbell Cnt VA (1870) ()
Hi, Lucy/Louisa Whorley, could very easily have a son surnamed Oglesby - if she had more than one husband. My great grandmother is listed in census with several sons - all with different surnames, since she married 5 times. Unfortunately 1870 doesn't list relationships - so there is no way to know how the other Worley's in the household are related - based only on that census. Have you tried to find information on their railroad jobs? You will need to see what records are available - death/mortality and wills for both Campbell and neighboring Bedford - since there are Oglesby slaveholders in both. I don't see many Whorley slaveowners nearby - other than a William W Worley (1850) in Bedford. They are clustered in Washington county further southwest. There are AA Whorley/Worley families in neighboring Bedford in the census. You might want to look at these families as well. Luckily neither of these counties were "burned". the Libray of Va has these reocords on microfilm for Campbell: CAMPBELL COUNTY Births:
Deaths:
Marriages:
Census mortality scedules for Campbell are avialable on line at ancestry. Denise
