New to Research on South Carolina Families?
This is a special invitation to join AfriGeneas and the South Carolina Genealogical Society at the Summer 2004 Workshop in Columbia, SC. The Workshop is designed for new researchers as well as the "experienced" genealogist. Dates are July 9 and 10, 2004. Will be held at the SC State Archives (Parklane Drive).
More information can be obtained from the SC Genealogical Society (SCGS) website at www.scgen.org or by viewing "Events" on AfriGeneas' Events calendar.
Tony Burroughs, Brenda Smothers and Scott Wilds are among the speakers who will be at a special Roundtable for African-American researchers. (Saturday morning)
This is a great chance for anyone who lives within driving distance of Columbia to get to know other researchers, use the Archives (normally closed on Saturday) and even get information on how to preserve family heirlooms. There are also some great exhibits and places to visit while in Columbia. The Workshop planners have worked to make this an event that A-A researchers should not miss -- fees are extremely nominal (less than $50 with lunch) for two days of sessions filled with information that can help you avoid the "brick wall" of genealogy.
Hope you will join us as we work to develop more projects, resources and networks for genealogy about South Carolina ancestors.
