My mother was holding out on me. We have a document that says Albert was an ex-slave of William O. Winston by the time he married Laura who was 13 at the time. She was freed at the age of 9. She was a slave of Capt. R.R. Davenport. They were married at the home of Capt. Stewart and William O. gave them big wedding dinner. Laura's father was sold and sent further south and she never saw him again. Still have not figured out who Alberts's father was but there was a slave called "Uncle Jack" who is old enough to be his father. Also went to the cemetery and saw Albert and Laura's graves. I noticed that one of the other graves in the cemetery had the name spelled "Windston". Hopefully I can find the names of the slaves that came from Va with WIlliam O. Just thought I would share my progress since I am so excited.
