SMITH-OWES mystery solved!
In Response To: Re: SMITH - OWES connection in Cleveland, Ohio ()
Hi to all!
I just had to write after receiving some exciting news today!
This past Saturday, I followed the advice that I had received on Afrigeneas.com about contacting a man in Cleveland, Ohio named Nicholas T. Owes in my search for HELEN SMITH and her sister, RUTH SMITH OWES, whose husband was WILLIS OWES. My mother had not seen or heard from them since the early 1940's in Cleveland.
I had found two possible Cleveland addresses for a Nicholas T. Owes. On Saturday, I mailed identical letters to him at each address in hopes that he was possibly related to Ruth or Helen. I included my home phone number.
My mother has been anxiously trying to find out anything that she could about her old friends, especially Helen, from Central High School in Cleveland, so I figured that writing those two letters couldn't hurt and just might help.
This morning (Tuesday), I had to run some errands and was away from home for most of the day. My mother was, however, here.
When I returned home this evening, my mother was beaming from ear to ear! She said that while I was out, Nicholas Owes had called her and confirmed that he was the son on Willis and Ruth Owes!! That also made him Helen's nephew!
Mom had a long conversation with Nicholas and also with his wife. They seemed to be as overjoyed to hear from my mother as she was to talk to them.
The sad part of the conversation, unfortunately, was that my mother learned that Willis and Ruth Owes as well as Ruth's sister, Helen Smith Barrett, have all passed.
Mom said that in addition to talking to Nicholas and his wife, shortly afterwards, she received a telephone call from her late friend Helen's daughter, who promised to send some copies of her mother's photos to my mother!
Needless to say, my mother is deeply saddened that her old friends have passed but is on cloud nine that she has been given this opportunity to connect with their children.
I want to take this opportunity to thank all those people who posted suggestions and/or e-mailed me concerning this. Between all of you, and some grace and mercy from the Lord, a prayer has been answered!
Blessings to all!
