Re: JY COLLIER slaves
In Response To: Re: COLLIER: slaves ()

Found out that JY Collier is James Yancey Collier - wife's name Rebecca:
(see web page of Collier researcher link below)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
33. James Yancey6 COLLIER (Joseph5, Thomas4, Joseph3, John2, Thomas1), born 12 Jun 1809 in Caswell Co. NC; deceased 11 Jun 1868 in Marshall, Harrison Co. TX. He married Rebecca WILDER, born 1812 in NC; deceased aft. 1880 in Hall Co. TX.
Notes for James Yancey Collier
The obituary of J. Y. states that he died of Apoplexy.
He is found on the 1840 Tax List for Nacogdoches Co TX. He owned 13 slaves, 1 saddle horse and 2 silver watches.
He is found on the Tax List for Harrison Co. TX in 1846 and on the 1850 census for that county.
Information on the children of J.Y. and Rebecca from family sheets and census information found in the Verticle Files of the Harrison Co. TX. Library and sent to me by Jim Oliphant.
Children of James Yancey6 Collier and Rebecca Wilder were as follows:
i Martha "Mattie"7
James D.7
Laura M.7
Peggy7
Drady7
43 Frances Lea7
F.H.R.7 , male, born 1840 in Fayette Co. TN. Listed only by initials on the 1850 Census of Harrison Co. TX.
The Collier researcher above didn't list the 1850 slave schedule - which they may not have noticed - he's mis-spelled again:
I'd check out the Harrison County library mentioned in the researcher data above. If your Jeff was born in Alabama, more than likely he was a purchase, between the time JY had only 13 slaves and two watches in Nacogdoches, and the time that he suddenly becomes very wealthy in Harrison. Just a thought.
Good luck,
Denise
