Just a hunch. They were listed next to each other.....the only black families in a stretch of white ones, and families frequently staayed together and moved together. It's always a good idea ro read over several pages before and after the ones your ancestors are listed on to get an idea of the neighborhood and check for other related families.

Where were your DEVANs in 1880? Do you have any clue where they were in 1860? Was Harriet living near them then?
