Thanks for that webpage, but what I found on William H Barnes he was born a free man. He was born in Maryland but was in Virginia during the Civil War. I am trying to find out if he could be the father to my ggrandfather Parks Barnes. According to oral information Parks Barnes didn't know his father, and the year I have of his birth is 1863 in Virginia. I am still trying to find out more about the life of William H Barnes.
