Re: Amanda Phillips (DNA)
In Response To: Re: Amanda Phillips (DNA) ()

Denise,

You were right. I meant that my match was a woman of African descent that intermarried or had children from someone of Spanish descent. One of the women whose DNA matched mines said that the family had a story that there was a African woman that was in the family tree. She didn't have time to do her own family genealogy so she didn't have any information about her relatives. In any case, I know that a female relative on my mother side (I submitted my own DNA) was in Puerto Rico thereby narrowing the passage way a little for my research.

My test were down by the National Geographic Genographic Project, wheras I then uploaded the results to Family Tree DNA. The National Geographic Project, stated the the L2, my haplogroup, was "the signature of Bantu haplogroup, accounting for around half of the genetic lineages found in the southeast African Bantu populations." I have no idea how broad that genetic lineage is, but your information about the arrival of African in Puerto Rico helps a lot. Since another lady is from Spain, do you think my ancestor could have been a African from Spain? How does that square with the Bantu haplogroup information?

Brita
